SEASON INFORMATION AT A GLANCE

***FUNDRAISING EXPECTATIONS***

Although our program does get financial help from the district, it does not fund everything that our program requires to run smoothly & efficiently. All extra competitions that both JV & V compete in

outside of districts, states & Ches-Monts is funded by the program.

Any extra uniforms outside of our school rotation is funded by the organization. Parties, gifts for both the holiday party & banquet, transportation, nationals require money. Every cheerleader/family will be required to fund raise $500 (sideline only) OR $1000 (sideline & competition team).

This ensures that everyone does their part equally. If that dollar amount is not met, then each family will be responsible to pay the difference.  This is very easily done with the fundraisers that we use.

MAKING JV VS. VARSITY

Can Freshman make Varsity ? Yes

Can Seniors make JV ? Yes

Can I make the competition team, but not the Jv or Varsity team? No

EXPECTATIONS FOR MAKING THE TEAM~

JV:

The squad is not only built with cheerleaders who have skill, but those that have determination, heart & a GREAT attitude. This team is a preparatory team for those who are interested in making Varsity or the Competition Team, but who have not met the requirements yet to make those teams. This is not to say that you do not have quality attributes, but that you may need to put in some extra work in order to be prepared for the next season. If you make the JV squad, you will be required to attend every practice & game during the football season & basketball season.

You will not be required to attend tumbling; however it is recommended. The coaches make the decision based on all tryouts and how each applicant scored. Grades must be in good standing the entire season or one may be at risk for dismissal or pulled from a competitive team.

NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO OR GUARANTEED A POSITION.

VARSITY:

We have become a nationally competitive team and therefore we have expectations for the team. Solid Elite stunting Skills are necessary, sharp motions, tumbling & solid dance skills. Maturity is a must & an

understanding that behavior is expected to be appropriate in every way. This expectation is for JV too. You can make the Varsity team & NOT be on the competition team. If it is at your request, then it must be discussed with the coaches prior to tryouts. If it is the coaches decision, it will be discussed with you during tryouts or at the conclusion. Attendance is required for all practices & games throughout the season. Grades must be in good standing the entire season or one may be at risk for dismissal or pulled from a competitive team. NO ONE IS ENTITLED TO OR GUARANTEED A POSITION.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE COMPETITION SQUAD:

Coaches will pick the competition squad from ALL members. Typically Varsity members make the traditional competition team, but not all. If we need more members, we pull from the JV. If a JV has risen to the challenge, they may beat out a spot of a Varsity member. Our Game Day team may have alternates or JV members.

We believe that with Varsity comes great responsibility and our season is longer than others. Be prepared for to work hard. Our season stretches from tryouts in April to the end of February, straight through with minimal breaks. It takes great management of time and grades.

You must make THIS TEAM a priority and we will not accept missing practice, vacations during the season, work taking priority or social lives over practice, competitions and games. You will have your schedule well in advance and will rarely be changed unless something arises.

AS A WHOLE FOR THE PROGRAM:

It is proven that our students do better during the season with everything that it demands, than they do in the off season. Every year we see a decline in grades once the season is over from students who do not participate in a spring sport. Coaches demand school work to be handled & they stay on top of the team during the season.

In regards to academics: academics come first and you must always maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average. You can seek teacher help every day after school, so there is no excuse for not staying on top of grades.

We prefer a GPA of at least a 3.0. because we take pride in our combined GPA. If at any point you do not maintain this OR this includes the weekly eligibility list, you WILL run the risk of being removed from the squad permanently & replaced. Everyone is expected to commit to the full season. If there is conflict, please talk to the coaches in advance to possibly work your issue out. Our season is a perfect example of how busy the college life is. It prepares the students for the next chapter of how to budget & manage their time well.

If you are in trouble with ISS or OSS, coaches have the right to remove a player from the team. Coaches have the ability to dismiss anyone who is not meeting the expectations of the program.

In regards to actual skill coaches are looking for the following:

Standing back-handspring

Running back-handspring

Standing tuck

And working on at least one other running pass

Toe-touch

Herkie

Hurdler

Pike

Knowledge of advanced elite stunts (whether flyer or base). Tight arm movements & facials with a focus on precision! Excellent enthusiasm, drive & heart to be here!

This program frowns upon quitting during the season. If you quit, you you will not be permitted to return until after an entire school year.

Coaches promote sitting down & discussing what issue you may be having & trying to work them out. Honor the commitment & not penalize your team.

Coaches at East talk & ask why someone quit a team, so keep your value & do the right thing. Finish the season & if you don't want to tryout out next season, then we can accept that.
